John Coltrane’s process in making the album “A Love Supreme” involved a deep spiritual and artistic exploration. Before beginning the recording sessions for “A Love Supreme,” Coltrane experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1957. This transformative event led him to pursue a deeper connection with the divine through his music. The album, released in 1965, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and acclaimed jazz recordings of all time. 

In the documentary Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, acclaimed educator and philosopher Dr. Cornel West framed Coltrane’s time in isolation developing the music for the album as “nurturing his genius”.
